Veronica Santangelo is one of the most compelling companions in Fallout: New Vegas. Her personal quest, "I Could Make You Care," offers players a deep look into the rigid ideals and internal struggles of the Brotherhood of Steel. Completing this storyline requires precise triggers, technology retrieval, and pivotal moral decisions that shape Veronica's future.

Triggering the Quest Line

To start "I Could Make You Care," you must first recruit Veronica at the 188 Trading Post. After taking her along as a companion, you need to expose her to three distinct world events across the Mojave Wasteland. Visiting key locations like Camp McCarran, the Silver Rush, or listening to Pete at the Boomer Museum will prompt her to speak about the Brotherhood's declining future.

Presenting Technology to Elder McNamara

Once Veronica expresses her desire to help her chapter, travel with her to the Hidden Valley bunker to speak with the Elder. She will attempt to convince him that the faction must change its isolationist policies to survive. To support her argument, you must retrieve powerful ancient technology, such as the Pulse Gun from Vault 34, rangefinder data from HELIOS One, or agricultural research from Vault 22.

Making the Crucial Choice for Veronica

Despite bringing back rare technology, the Elder remains stubborn and refuses to alter the Brotherhood's strict stance. Despondent, Veronica asks for your advice on whether she should remain with her chapter or leave to join the Followers of the Apocalypse. Advising her to stay rewards her with the "Bonds of Steel" perk (+4 Damage Threshold), while encouraging her to leave grants the "Causeless Rebel" perk, boosting her attack speed.

Confronting the Rogue Paladins

When you exit the Hidden Valley bunker, a group of hostile Brotherhood Paladins will confront you for spreading dangerous ideas. If Veronica decides to leave, these paladins will later attack a Followers outpost, leading to a tragic showdown. Defeating the aggressors allows you to successfully resolve her companion quest and secure her permanent loyalty.
